Best Tacos in Guadalajara: 10 Top-Rated Taquerías
From birria at Don José to seafood at Taco Fish La Paz: 10 top-rated Guadalajara taquerías, with hours and neighborhoods.
Guadalajara does tacos its own way. It's the capital of Jalisco, the state many people connect with birria, but the city's taco scene goes well beyond one dish: seafood taquerías with lines in the morning, tongue stands that open before sunrise, evening-only spots in residential neighborhoods, and even vegan kitchens serving mushroom and squash tacos.
To build this list we used TacoPortal's data: the best-rated taquerías in Guadalajara and its metro area on Google, weighted by review count, because a 4.7 backed by thousands of reviews tells you more than a perfect 5.0 from ten people. We currently list 92 taquerías in the city; here are 10 that stand out. Hours come from Google and can change, so double-check before you go.
1. Taco Fish La Paz — seafood in Mexicaltzingo
Taco Fish La Paz has more reviews than any other taquería on our Guadalajara list: 4.7 stars from over 20,800 reviews. It sits on Av. de la Paz in Mexicaltzingo and is listed in our directory for fish, shrimp, tuna, octopus, breaded fish and ceviche tacos. It's open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., which makes it a late-breakfast or lunch stop rather than a dinner one.
2. Birria y carne asada Don José — Colonia Americana
If birria is the reason you came to Guadalajara, Birria y carne asada Don José is an obvious stop: 4.7 from nearly 7,000 reviews, on Calle Argentina in Colonia Americana. Besides birria, it's listed for carne asada, chicharrón, chorizo and tinga. Open Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday until 2:00 p.m.; it shows as closed on Sunday.

Watch the split schedule: it opens 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays and reopens some evenings (Wednesday to Friday, 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.). Saturday is evening-only and Sunday shows as closed.
7. Tacón de Marlin — marlin in Colonia Americana

Planning a Guadalajara taco day
- Morning: start early with tongue tacos at Los Carnales (from 6:00 a.m.) or Tacos Pepe's (from 7:00 a.m.).
- Lunch: seafood at Taco Fish La Paz or Tacón de Marlin, or birria at Don José. Many of the city's most popular taquerías close by mid-afternoon.
- Evening: Tacos Luis or Tacos Garibaldi, both from 7:00 p.m. and both closed on Sunday.
- Staying in Americana or Lafayette? Don José, Tacos Pepe's, Tacos La Choza and Tacón de Marlin are all in the same area.
One practical note: several of these spots show as closed on Sunday (Don José, Tacos Luis, Tacos Pepe's, La Choza and Garibaldi). If Sunday is your only free day, Taco Fish La Paz, Los Carnales and Calabacitas Tiernas are listed as open.
